Wonder What the Big Names Spend on Google Ads?
According to Advertising Age try this on for size...
"In two months, BP went from spending very little on search advertising -- about $57,000 a month -- to becoming one of Google's top advertisers, dropping nearly $3.6 million in the month of June alone [...] Expedia, which spent at least $5.9 million in June, Amazon, which spent at least $5.8 million, and eBay, which spent at least $4.2 million. [...] Google's top advertisers that month, AT&T Mobile, spent more than $8 million on AdWords in June."

New clients often ask us for some the URLs of websites we've created. They may even track down someone from one of the companies to do a little digging on us (after all, references are usually the ones you've had exceptional experience with right?). We recently provided a proposal for a realtor who was needing some branding help and a new website. This is the letter she received after contacting one of our former clients (not a provided reference). I worked with Avenue 25 last year to redesign our website when I first joined Grand Canyon Planning Associates. Our website was VERY plain, not very user-friendly and it didn’t provide much of a reason for people to visit or return to the site. After deciding what I wanted our site to do for us, I researched companies to help. I had narrowed it down to a couple of companies – and Avenue 25 had the best pricing/creativity combination. The Exchange Bar & Grill in New York opened last week adding a unique marketing gimmick to drink and menu prices. Patrons watch a ticker across the bar much like a stock exchange ticker that shows fluctuating menu prices on types of beer as moment to moment demand forces them to change, much like the stock market. So a glass of Guinness could start at $6 then fluctuate anywhere from a high of $8 to a low of $4 according to its popularity.
Sounds like fun to this Phoenix ad agency and web design team. Do you think this justifies a special “research” trip to New York?

You may have heard by now that Google intends to add website load time to its ranking algorithm in 2010. That means if your website doesn’t live up to Google’s speed requirements, you could lose your Google position. Google would like web pages to be 100k or less in size. Although speed isn’t the only ranking factor, this has big implications.
“So what” you say? Consider that handcuffs are now being placed on our Phoenix web designers, internet marketing firms and website designers everywhere. Sometimes just the CSS files of a page can be almost 100k in size. Almost any site that uses more than a splash of Flash, Javascript or anything other than just plain text could be penalized. Hey, don’t we already have online yellow page directories? Don’t get me wrong, I like Google, but it sure looks like they are trying to dictate how they want websites to be built rather than just listing what websites are out there. Shouldn’t they be encouraging online creativity and new developments?

Ask any local country listener for the best voice in the Valley and you'll hear "Big Shoe Stu!" He's the voice of country but without the accent. That's just part of what makes him our favorite local male vo talent. The rest is his creativity, experience, ability to "make it happen" when you need it (usually yesterday,) his high-tech, in-home sound "STU"dio, and his uncanny ability to come up with any voice or dialect you need on command.
