Search engines love to follow links on websites. Almost every website design we do includes a links page in the website design and password access for the client. Website links from other relevant sites to your website help to move your website up in the directories. Exchanging links with another site within your industry is a nice and effective way to acheive this. Simply email the site administrator and request a link exchange. Tell them what you want your link to say on their site and they'll tell you what they want you to put on your site. Then just log in to your link page and add away. Why would an agency with a respected name and reputation make a change of this magnitude after 16 years? The primary reason was to update the image with a name and look truly reflective of its fresh world-class talent and fun-yet-professional personality. TTA started in 1991 as Travel Trade Advertising, an agency specializing in the lodging industry. As times changed and their client base grew to include a wide variety of businesses outside of the travel industry, the name no longer represented the agency – which meant it was time for a change. “It was not an easy process,” comments Pile. “Many times we considered staying with our ‘tried and true’ name and image, and scrapping the whole notion. But the newer members of our team were incredibly enthusiastic as well as patient with us old-timers.” The result is a name and a look that every member of the team is excited about. “The goal was to make a change that we could all get behind. And if you have never tried to make a group of creative people come to consensus, you just can’t imagine the challenge,” notes Rob Tinsman, Senior Art Director. “It was like a bad joke,” agrees Pile. “How long does it take a committee of designers to agree on a name and image? How about a year and a half?” To give some perspective, he explained that this process typically takes the agency a matter of weeks to complete for a client. Another obstacle in the path to change was workload. When you go to Google or Yahoo and type in a few key words or phrases about your kind of business, does your website show up on the first or second page? If not, then your web site needs to be optimized. SEO (search engine optimization) is the behind-the-scenes work we do to your website to help move it up in search engine (yahoo, google, etc.) rankings. The majority of Americans use the internet when searching for a business or service. So the closer you are to the number one position in the search engines for certain keywords and phrases, the more business you'll receive (assuming your website is also designed right.) For example, if you were the owner of Bob's Boxes in Phoenix, Arizona, you would want to be the first business to come up in Google when someone enters keywords and phrases like "phoenix box stores" or "cardboard boxes" or "shipping cartons" or "Phoenix moving boxes," etc. Today, search engine optimization is the only way to get there. Each search engine has its own algorithm (set of factors or rules) to help it decide which web site should appear first when a person enters certain words or phrases. That algorithm may include things like the number of times a key word is found on your home page. It may also calculate the number of other related web sites that have your site linked on their web site, and perhaps the length of time your website has been in existence. Each algorithm is unique and complex and search engines are constantly changing them to make them more precise. Search engine optimization is not a one-time deal. First it must factored into the original design of your website. Then usually on a monthly basis, our SEO specialists must figure out which elements each search engine is looking for when calculating the placement of your web site for certain key words. While our SEO specialists are working to make your site appear first, other SEO specialists are doing the same for your competitor's web sites. I liken it to a game of chess, with each side trying to out-strategize the other. The payoff can be enormous with a number one Google position. Here, even a small company can do as well as a big guys. So is search engine optimization important to your business? Of course it is! How long will it take to start seeing results? That greatly depends on the competition for your specific keywords, but typically a few weeks for Yahoo and a few months on Google.
